Preparing for Your Mission
Stay home if you're sick
Please do not visit the California Science Center if you have been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19 or COVID symptoms in the last 14 days, if you are currently under isolation or quarantine orders, or if you have experienced any of the following symptoms in the last 14 days: fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea. Do not visit if you have a temperature of 100.4 degrees or more. The Science Center has a flexible rebooking policy, as long as you contact us at (213) 744-2019 before your visit date and time. No refunds.
Timed-entry reservations are required
Visitor capacity will be limited to provide a safe and comfortable guest experience for everyone at the Science Center. We strongly recommend you make your reservations online or by phone in advance. Reservations can also be made on-site at the box office with no service fee, but availability and your preferred entry time are not guaranteed for in-person reservations. The service fee is also waived for Members making reservations online or by phone.
Separate timed tickets, available for purchase online, are required for our special exhibition The Art of the Brick, as well as for the IMAX Theater. Seating in the IMAX Theater will be available at reduced capacity to allow for physical distancing, so to guarantee a seat, please purchase your tickets online before arriving. Members receive a discount on IMAX and special exhibition tickets.
Wear a face covering
Everyone over the age of two is required to wear a face covering at all times, except while eating in designated dining areas. Face coverings are required even if you have been vaccinated. They must be made of two or more layers of tightly woven material, must fit snugly against the sides of your face, and fully cover your nose, mouth and chin. Masks with valves, vents or holes are not permitted. Also, neck gaiters or bandannas cannot be used as face coverings. We value the wellbeing of our guests and staff. If you remove your face covering, you will be asked to leave.
Mission Safety Protocols
Please be on time for your reservation
In order to comply with capacity protocols as directed by the LA County Health Department, please be on time for your reservation. Please print your reservation bar code or have your bar code ready on your mobile device when you arrive.
Before entering, each guest will need to undergo a contact-free temperature screening. We will ask you to verify that you have not been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19 or COVID symptoms for the last 14 days, are not currently under isolation or quarantine orders, and do not have any COVID-19 symptoms. If any member of your party has symptoms or a temperature of 100.4 degrees or more, all members of your party will be asked to visit at another time. If you should begin to feel ill during a visit, please notify our staff for assistance.
Please stay with your household group and remain at least six feet from all other guests and staff during your visit. Parties will be limited to members of the same household, with a maximum party size of six. Attendance in the IMAX Theater will be held at a reduced capacity to allow for physical distancing also. Please follow posted signs, as well as any instructions from Science Center staff. We are limiting the number of guests and have established one-way paths in some areas to provide for safe distancing.
Keep kids close
Children must stay with their household group at all times.
Treat each other like stars
We understand that this is a challenging time for everyone, but our staff is here to help you have a wonderful time learning in a fun environment. Please respect them. We won't tolerate any yelling, intimidation, threats, swearing, or any other inappropriate behavior. Anyone who is aggressive toward staff or other guests will be asked to leave.
To help provide the safest possible experience for guests, the California Science Center has made some key changes to our exhibits, facility, and procedures.
Exhibit Galleries and IMAX Theater
Many Science Center exhibits have been adapted for hands-free interaction, allowing our guests to safely and comfortably have fun learning about science. You can see live animals in many of our Ecosystems exhibits, explore air and space artifacts like the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo space capsules and space shuttle Endeavour, and enjoy photography displays like Mission 26: The Big Endeavour. Timed tickets are also available for purchase for our popular special exhibition, The Art of the Brick, as well as for some spectacular IMAX films. Although some exhibitions are closed due to COVID restrictions, more are opening all the time. There’s still so much to see at the California Science Center!
The California Science Center’s cleaning protocols have been enhanced and uphold the highest standards of cleanliness.
Our climate control systems have been adjusted to bring in the maximum possible amount of outdoor air and use hospital-grade filtration.
Contact-free bottle-filling stations are available, but water fountains have been closed.
Hand-washing and sanitizing stations have been added throughout the Science Center. We encourage everyone to frequently and thoroughly wash your hands for a minimum of 20 seconds.
Contact-free payment options are available for all transactions inside the Science Center, and for parking. If you do not wish to utilize contact-free payment for parking, please bring exactly $12 in cash.
A limited menu of food is available to purchase. You’ll find boxed lunches as well as grab-and-go food options and plenty of outdoor seating. Tables have been rearranged and spaced to promote physical distancing.
When you visit the ExploraStore, you’ll find wider aisles, clearly marked prices, and reduced guest capacity to promote physical distancing.
Staff Safety Measures
California Science Center staff will remain at least six feet from guests, and when this is not possible, will be positioned behind Plexiglas. Face coverings are worn by Science Center staff at all times. All staff are screened for temperature and symptoms before beginning a shift.
